Tulips and transience. The decay of a tulip is special, until just before the moment of total wilting the tulip is beautiful. The old petals get a shine and a very intense colour. The tulip is a flower that appeals to the imagination. In the 17th century a true tulip mania arose, tulip bulbs became merchandise. Nowadays we really see them as spring flowers and marvel at the many colourful bulb fields and see tulips as something typically Dutch.
