Battle of Livorno, Reinier Nooms, 1653 - 1664 A painted sheet at lower left describes the scene: the sea battle off the Italian port of Livorno between the Dutch and English fleets in 1653. Thanks to their victory, the Dutch controlled trade on the Mediterranean. Nooms almost certainly made the canvas for the Chamber of Levant Trade in Amsterdam.
