The White House in Rotterdam was built in 1897, with Architect Willem Molenbroek taking inspiration from American skyscrapers. At the time, with a height of 43 metres, it was the tallest office building in Europe. By comparison, the Woolworth Building in New York built in 1913 has a height of 241 metres. One of the few buildings in the centre of Rotterdam, it withstood the heavy bombing of 14 May 1940.
