About ‘Waterfall at Allerheiligen’ by Marald Bes

The Allerheiligen waterfalls in the Black Forest, where the water comes over a mossy edge and splits in two on the way down.

The long exposure has turned the fall into a smooth white veil running down in two ribbons and disappearing into a dark pool. Everything around it stands perfectly still and sharp.

The rocks are under thick, vivid green moss, and out of every crack grows a fern or a young sapling. In the top corners the canopy closes over, so there is barely any sky and the light stays soft.

What is easy to miss is the third little stream on the left, seeping down over the moss without ever becoming a proper fall.

The pool at the bottom is brown from filtered leaves, with a pale line of foam along its edge.

Hang this one if you miss the woods.
