A photo of a very old tree. This oak tree is more than 100 years old! A monumental tree, in other words.
And this monumental oak tree is in my neighbourhood.
What fascinates me about such an old tree is the fact that this tree has already seen so much, experienced so much. How I would love it if the tree could talk, if it could tell us all that has happened around it and what it has seen. I think this old giant could definitely teach us a wise lesson from all he has been through.
This tree is beautiful at any time of year but especially in winter when there are no more leaves on the branches. You can then see the stately silhouette of the big tree. It then radiates even more strength and perseverance. And its strength and perseverance have ensured that the tree still carries on despite everything that has come its way over the past 100 years.
Thus, this tree symbolises all sorts of things: strength, perseverance and certainly wisdom!
Such a photo of a silhouette does not need any colour. That's why I converted the photo to black and white. This further emphasises the beautiful shape of the imposing oak tree. The unusual clouds in the background give the photo a dramatic look and black and white emphasises this atmosphere even more.
I see making art as a creative process.
The starting point of this process for me is always a photo or a painting of my own. Every work of art on this site is therefore based on a self-made photo or painting.
I find my sources of inspiration in everything around me...
