The Paint Mill "De Kat" is the only remaining working windmill in the world and a historical landmark on the Zaanse Schans. Originally built in 1646, the mill was rebuilt after a fire and later moved, before the upper part of another mill was placed on top in 1960. Today, the mill traditionally grinds pigments from natural raw materials, which are then sold to artists and restorers worldwide, keeping the ancient craft of paint preparation alive.
