View from Zabriskie Point into Death Valley National Park in California, taken in October 2024 in the late afternoon at around 36 degrees Celsius in the shade.
The picture shows a rocky, dry region with hardly any vegetation visible. Death Valey National Park is an impressive desert landscape with hilly, eroded formations that shimmer in various shades of ochre - from light beige and yellow to red and brown. Mountain ranges stretch out in the background and a flat plain, the former Lake Manly, can be seen on the horizon.
The structure and colours show an area that has been shaped by erosion and wind erosion. The rock formations visible from this point are the sediments of the former Furnace Creek Lake. This dried up five million years ago.
I was deeply impressed by this desert landscape. I would have liked to stay there longer, but there just wasn't enough time to see the sunset.
