At Tanjung Puting National Park on the island of Kalimantan (formerly Borneo) in Indonesia, orangutans are taken in and cared for until they can live independently in the wild again. They are given food and their health is monitored. Many of these animals were found in places where they were kept as pets. There are also many orphaned animals. The mother monkey is killed for meat. They are often traumatised animals.
