MIXED MEDIA / COLLAGE LANDSCAPE
I have gathered my landscapes in this album. They are artworks about places, memories, and—above all—the feeling a landscape can evoke. Many of my landscapes are inspired by nostalgia: memories of summers, travels, the sea, and being outdoors. Sometimes the landscape is recognizable; at other times, the image is more abstract. What connects them is a sense of freedom and space. I work from original, handmade paintings on canvas, board, or paper. I build up the landscapes layer by layer using a combination of collage, acrylic paint, watercolor, pastel, pencil, and ink. Transparent layers allow parts of the underlying image to remain visible, so that memories persist—as it were—throughout the landscape. The works often contain many small details. Up close, you discover various textures, lines, colors, and layers; from a distance, the larger picture emerges, along with the feeling the landscape evokes. In this way, my landscapes are not merely depictions of a place. They are about freedom, memories, and longing. Yet, at times, they also strike a critical note.
