SICILY on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Silva Wischeropp

The largest island in Italy is the sunny island of Sicily. It is washed by three seas: the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west, the Ionian Sea to the east and the Mediterranean to the south. Only the narrow Strait of Messina separates Sicily from Calabria on the Italian mainland. Italy is already very diverse and distinctive from region to region. Sicily is still something special, financially poorer, but even richer in terms of landscape, culture and cuisine. Anyone who has ever been to Sicily will never let go of their longing for this island. Nature in Sicily is colorful and fragrant with blooming almond, lemon and orange trees and exotic flowers. Nature is incredibly diverse with volcanoes, Mediterranean scrub on the slopes of mountains and hills as well as river valleys and the diverse seabed. The numerous foreign rulers left their mark on Sicily; it became a cultural melting pot from which people could draw. Diversity is what makes Sicily rich. If Italy is dotted with archaeological sites, most of them date back to Roman times. In Sicily, most excavations date back to the period of Greek rule and even further. The places in Italy mostly have a typically medieval structure. Sicily is full of Baroque style and there are only a few medieval places.
