"Still life of our toilet" is an intriguing digital artwork that at first glance depicts an everyday space, but on closer inspection reveals a rich collection of memories and cultural symbols. The scene shows a shelf above a modest toilet, on which souvenirs from different parts of the world come together in an unexpectedly harmonious composition. At the centre is a colourful Matroeska doll from Riga, framed by a small "Rezerwacja" sign from Krakow that adds a touch of humour and irony.
To its left adorn miniatures of the Empire State Building from New York and the Eiffel Tower from Paris, symbolising metropolitan dreams. Scattered are shells, silent witnesses of sunny holidays and distant shores. A ceramic tile with the text "Je suis indivialiste" from Honfleur adds a philosophical note, while a colourful Gaudí bull from Mallorca embodies Mediterranean gaiety.
Notable are Dalí's three small turtles from Figueras, which exude playfulness and surrealism. A Jewish doll from Krakow adds a historical, almost melancholic dimension. Among these objects are three angels - Happiness, Protection and Health - as symbols of hope and longing.
A turtle from Cape Verde, small but full of character, balances subtly among the other souvenirs. A key ring with a miniature shoe by Jan Jansen from the Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum adds a Dutch note. On the far right, a simple wicker storage basket closes the scene, as a modest, earthy counterpart to this colourful collection.
This still life is an intimate portrait of journeys, memories and identity, captured in an everyday but unexpectedly poetic place.
