Under a brilliant blue, cloudless sky, a stylised cityscape unfolds that looks both bright and iconic. In the foreground, a bare, simple fence stretches horizontally, an austere partition between the viewer and the city. Immediately behind it flows the Oudegracht, rendered as a smooth, deep blue plane that gives the image a sense of calm and depth.
Across the canal rise three characteristic canal houses, sleek and simplified in form and colour, but still recognisably historic. Central in this triptych is a light-coloured building, proudly bearing the name "MAGAZIJN de VLIJT" in graceful, black letters on the façade, above it subtly the year "Since 1847" as evidence of long tradition. The facade is flat and clear, with no shadows, emphasising the graphic style.
To the left of the central building is the well-known café de Postiljon, strategically placed at the corner by the Gaardbrug. This café has a warm, darker shade, which contrasts with the light warehouse and suggests an inviting atmosphere. The Gaardbrug itself is only summarily marked, a line connecting the architecture to the waterfront.
Further down, three more canal houses stand out, smaller and slightly less detailed, adding perspective and scale to the artwork. The whole breathes simplicity, balance and a touch of nostalgia, captured in a clear, stylised image that celebrates the essence of the place.
