A Douglas C-47 Skytrain (also known as a Dakota) drops paratroopers during the commemoration of Operation Market Garden near Driel in 2019.
Operation Market Garden was an Allied offensive directed against Nazi Germany in September 1944, near the end of World War II. In this major operation, many airborne troops were used to capture the strategic bridges on Dutch soil. Unfortunately, the operation was unsuccessful in that ultimately the very important bridge at Arnhem could not be retained.
I took this photo on September 22, 2019. In 2019 it had been 75 years since Operation Market Garden had taken place.
