The sun is setting and will soon disappear behind the mountains in the distance. The mighty Japanese Shinto altar monument stands almost entirely in the water because of the rising tide of the sea. The wooden gate is of immense dimensions and very tall, some'5 stories. It is a fantastic location. I am there in summer so the sun sets very late. When the tide is low you can walk across the sand to the torii. When the tide is high, the torii is completely in the water, a very special sight. This religious site is in Itsukushima, and is on an island in Hiroshima Bay.
