The Zeeland Bridge is a road bridge over the Oosterschelde estuary with a total length of 5022 metres. It connects Noord-Beveland and Schouwen-Duiveland, thus providing a shorter connection to the towns of Middelburg and Goes on the southern side, and Zierikzee and Bruinisse on the northern side. The bridge is part of the provincial road N256.
When completed, the bridge was the longest bridge in Europe. That lasted until October 1972, when the 6070m-long Öland Bridge was opened in Sweden,[3]
The bridge was still called Oosterschelde Bridge during its construction and the first 18 months of operation. On 13 April 1967, the Province of Zeeland decided to give it the final name Zeelandbrug.
