This image is a deliberate composition. On the old wooden table, with obvious signs of use, is a fancy teacup. A pink flower has been placed in the teacup for contrast. The whole thing stands out against a spring green background.
The old wooden table belonged to my daughter Rosan. Her two sons busily helped with its use ;-)
The teacup Rosan found in France, at a flea market or, as the French call it, a "vide grenier" or "brocante". It is clearly a very old teacup, probably the proud possession of an old lady of standing. In the green on the cup you can see the drawing of leaves. On the right side of the cup you can see a small painting. It is a romantic depiction of a lute player who, perhaps, brings an aubade to the lady. The attire of the two seems nineteenth-century. She in a long flared skirt under a tight bodice, he in a long coat, knee-length pants and long white stockings.
The edges of the saucer and cup are trimmed with gold trim. Looking at the white bottom of the saucer, you can see the shadow of the dark stripe of the table.
It is a picture full of history, because of the cup and because of the old wooden table. It's nice to think how many people have already enjoyed these two things. I think it's a very nice image for the kitchen.
