About ‘As the birds fly’ by Lex Schulte

Birds fly up when the day slowly arrives. A new day begins with a beautiful sunrise. Slowly the first rays of the sun dispel the morning fog. Hatertse and Overasseltse Vennen is a fens area of approx. 520 hectares in the municipalities of Heumen and Wijchen, province of Gelderland. The area consists of about twenty named fens and the surrounding river dunes, heathland and woods. The area lies to the southwest of Nijmegen. Once this area, southwest of Nijmegen, was created by the rivers Waal and Maas. By now both rivers are far away from here, but because of the river clay they left behind, you can now enjoy the more than 20 fens.
