Sometimes trees are like a barcode. So they form the barcode to a forest. By using backlighting and applying high contrast, you get an almost abstract forest image. Making the photo in black and white gives even more abstraction and atmosphere. This photo was taken in the Ardennes, Belgium, in the area around the High Fens. The largest raised bog area in Europe. The High Fens plateau is one of the last pieces of wilderness in these regions. It lies in and around the Eupen-Monschau-Malmedy-Spa quadrangle. The core of the area is a ridge of old shale, with peaks up to 694 metres above sea level, immediately the highest part of the entire Benelux.
