During a walk on the Kalmthoutse Heide, I came across a dead tree next to the path. The overall picture offered a hushed autumn scene. Due to the small number of hikers on this weekday afternoon and probably also the calmness in myself, I looked at this dead fallen tree, its weathered branches reaching for the sky. Around the tree - like a carpet - is the spent heather. Grass in brown and orange autumn tones grows around the tree. Green moss slowly but surely makes its way across the wood.
The colour of the sky betrays that this last October day is coming to an end. The scene exudes melancholy and captures the cycle of nature: it gives and takes, destroys and renews. Here life is shown in all its transience and beauty. The continuous cycle in which everything has a place.
