If you've ever taken a walk on a Zeeland beach, you've undoubtedly seen them: the characteristic breakwaters that can be found on almost all of Zeeland's beaches. Zeeland's breakwaters are also called stilt heads and are wooden poles on a dam made of stones and basalt blocks. Depending on the tide (ebb or flow), the poles are partly or fully submerged.
