Coevorden is an old fortified city in Drenthe, the Netherlands. It is also home to the only castle in the northern Netherlands that was restored to its former glory in the 1960s. In the inner city there are still old historic buildings, some of which are open for viewing. Below right is the Bentheimer Bridge. This was destroyed in May 1940 by the Dutch army to slow down the German invasion. In May 1945 the bridge was again blown up but this time by the German occupiers to stop the Canadian liberators.
