I found this cormorant on the dock at the pond near here. He was sitting there watching everything. I approached from the right and he looked to the right, and as soon as I passed he turned his head and watched me with his left eye. I also had a big camera in my fingers so that caught his attention too.
You can recognize the cormorant by its often spread wings to let them dry. The cormorant hunts for fish underwater and it does this best when its feathers are soaked. Therefore, it often sits in the sun to dry them. Not to warm up, but to dry. The cormorant is a protected species.
