Dream of blue butterflies by Bianca Wisseloo

The image depicts a dreamy and almost magical scene in which a group of bright blue butterflies float gracefully over a soft green background. The butterflies are rendered in various sizes, from large specimens with clearly defined wing structures to small, subtly rendered silhouettes that suggest depth and movement. Their wings are richly detailed: they display a mosaic of purple, blue and turquoise hues that blend together, as if the light dances through them. The darker edges of the wings give the insects an elegant outline, making them stand out additionally against the calm background.

The background itself is reminiscent of watercolours: soft patches, flowing colours and organic shapes create a serene atmosphere. The light-transparent shadows of some butterflies, which seem to float just behind or below the colourful front specimens, add to the sense of layering and movement. The whole creates the impression of butterflies in a silent, almost enchanted space where time seems to pass slowly.

The composition exudes tranquillity, but at the same time a subtle dynamism due to the direction in which the butterflies seem to move from top left to bottom right. This creates a natural flow that guides the eye throughout the image. The colour harmony between the cool blue of the butterflies and the soft green of the background enhances the dreamy nature of the artwork, making the scene feel both vivid and calming.
