The Procession of Princes in Dresden is a larger-than-life image of a cavalcade. The picture is applied to around 23,000 tiles made of Meissen porcelain. Originally, the depiction was executed in sgraffito technique between 1871 and 1876. However, as the picture quickly faded, it was renewed at the beginning of the 20th century. The Procession of Princes is located on the outside of the Stallhof on Schlossplatz, between Dresden's Hofkirche and Neumarkt. The 101 metre long mural depicts the history of the Saxon ruling dynasty of the House of Wettin in larger-than-life size.
Dresden is the capital of the Free State of Saxony and the second largest city in Saxony after Leipzig and the twelfth largest city in Germany.
The Frauenkirche, Semper Opera House and Zwinger are probably the most famous sights in the metropolis on the Elbe.
The name Elbflorenz (Florence on the Elbe) became an epithet for the city of Dresden at the beginning of the 19th century. The title was originally intended to honour Dresden's art collections and its architecture, but today it is also used in connection with other similarities and points of contact between the Saxon and Tuscan capitals.
