The Fokker S.14 "Machtrainer" served between 1955 and 1967 as jet trainer (fighter pilot training) with the Royal Air Force. This aircraft has straight wings with an air intake in the fuselage nose and is equipped with Martin-Baker ejection seats. Instructor and student sat side by side, an unusual arrangement for this category of trainers. The wider fuselage did have a negative influence on the maximum speed. The type was popular with pilots because it flew well (partly because of the V-position of the wings) and could land at much lower speed than most jets of the time, thanks to the straight, large-surface wing.
