What struck me enormously in Finland was the enormous amount of trees, the magnificent overgrowth of soil, and in between nothing. There were no shrubs, no half-high trees, or outcropping plants. The trees reached up to the sky and low at their feet grew ground covers. Often these are very delicate, petite grass stalks. If you lie on the ground and look at the ground cover, you will see that a soft, light, almost transparent haze forms. It is exactly this haze that I wanted to capture in my photograph, which worked out well in this work. You get soft shades of green, brown, ochre, the typical earth colors.
A splash of white can be seen on the right of the image, from a ray of bright sunlight, just like to the left of center in the image. The brown buds are mini-leaves, although in my work they look like small flowers.
