The church is located on a high mound so that the building could also serve as a 'refuge church' during a flood disaster.
Seen from the air with the patterns of mown grass contrasting in colour against the vegetation on the mound, it is somewhat imaginable how the little building would rise above the water during a flood.
Although this summer afternoon is already coming to an end, the sun has lost little of its strength and the languid warmth is almost palpable.
The little church dates back to 1856 as evidenced by the gable stone above the entrance to the tower. The church is a single-nave hall church with rich ornaments. The building style is neo-Gothic with influences from the French Gothic style. The little church was restored several times (including in 1979). The original tower was replaced in a more austere form at some point.
Until recently, the Reformed Congregation of Valburg-Homoet held a church service there every first Sunday of the month.
Homoet is a hamlet in the municipality of Overbetuwe.
