The Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels is a place I frequent often. I live practically around the corner from it. When I want to take my mind off things, I take my camera and go into the park to photograph. To forget all worries for a moment and get into a flow. Then you experience those moments when your inspiration can be enormously strong.
I had the same when I came across this backlit setting: the sunlight was shining through the flower petals and I saw the triumphal arch on the shadow side.
Only when I saw the photo on big screen did I see that there was also an insect on the flower I had focused on. Fantastic, a stroke of luck!
I also chose to focus expressly on the flower and not on the triumphal arch. That arch is beautiful to look at, but already photographed so many times. I wanted to use it in my image in a different way. Now your eyes are first drawn to the flower only to wander further over the blurred background.
