The first signs of winter can be very photogenic: branches of trees standing out against a blue sky, the first ice forming in puddles of water and people wrapped up against the cold.
Especially with the first real winter cold in December, everything is extra photogenic: all day long you have fantastic light in a city like Brussels. Still, as a photographer you then have to look for higher areas for daylight in the late afternoon, like the Cinquantenaire Park.
This photo was taken around 4pm, just before sunset. The last rays of the sun and their reflection shone on the buildings at the back of the photo as well as the fountain and the frozen water. The two people on the bank, a father and a son came out brilliantly.
Of course, I expressly photographed their silhouette to make them unrecognisable because I consider their privacy very important.
