About ‘Fog on the Amstel, Amsterdam’ by Maarten Steunenberg

I took this photograph one early morning on the Amstel, close to home. The morning mist had not yet lifted from the city: the buildings in the background fade into the white, with only the foreground in focus. And at that very moment, a single little boat passed by, with one man standing upright at the helm.

What moves me about this image is the silence. Amsterdam is known for its hustle and bustle, but those who live here also know this side of it — the hour when the city belongs to no one yet. The man in the little boat has all that water to himself. Black and white emphasises this: the mist becomes an empty expanse, the image almost a drawing.

For me, this is Amsterdam as I most like to see it. Not the postcard version, but the everyday moment you only experience if you’re there early.

In an interior, this is a calm, light image that opens up a space rather than filling it. It suits people who have a connection with Amsterdam — who live there, have lived there, or long to return — or those who appreciate understated, atmospheric work.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
