You would think this building would be in one of the Mediterranean countries. But nothing could be further from the truth, this is a fortress on the banks of the Rhine in Germany. This classicist facade stands in the courtyard of Fort Ehrenbreitstein, at the strategic spot in Germany near the city of Koblenz where the Moselle and Rhine rivers meet.
I never expected to take a picture like this and Germany so I was pleasantly surprised. I really like the play of lines and symmetry and I really like the combination with the pastel colours.
Festung Ehrenbreitstein, located on a steep cliff above the Rhine river opposite Koblenz, Germany, is a historic fortress with a rich history dating back to the 11th century. The current structure dates from the 19th century, built by the Prussians as part of the Rhine Province's fortifications. The fortress is an impressive example of military architecture, with a star-shaped design, thick walls and bastions. It offers panoramic views of the Rhine and Koblenz, which made it an almost impregnable fortress.
Today, Fort Ehrenbreitstein is a tourist attraction and cultural centre with guided tours, museums and exhibitions, such as the Landesmuseum Koblenz. The cable car over the Rhine offers spectacular views and connects the fortress to Koblenz. Events and festivals such as historical reenactments and music concerts take place regularly. Photographers are attracted by the impressive military architecture, historical atmosphere and breathtaking views, making the fort a favourite place to capture.
