‘Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem’ is a work of art in which history, faith and the longing for peace converge. The ancient city walls of Jerusalem form the centrepiece of a composition that alludes to the enduring significance of this city for the Jewish people and biblical history.

Above the cityscape are the Hebrew words from Psalm 122:6, followed by the English translation: “Pray for the well-being of Jerusalem; May those who love you be at peace.” The intense cobalt blue set against the bright white gives the composition a serene, almost timeless quality. The monumental city walls, weathered stones and historic towers are depicted in a finely woven network of lines and fragments. The open sky offers visual tranquillity in contrast to the detailed architecture.

Within Fragmentamism, the artistic style developed by KlaasR, reality is dissected and reconstructed. The historic setting remains recognisable, but takes on new meaning through the fragmented visual language.

Psalm 122 is a pilgrim’s song by David calling for prayers for the peace of Jerusalem. The Hebrew word ‘shalom’ encompasses more than the absence of war; it also refers to wholeness, well-being and harmony. A visual prayer for Jerusalem; a longing for peace, restoration and the fulfilment of the Eternal One’s promises.
