YOUR WORD IS A LAMP TO MY FEET

KlaasR | Fragmentamism – Israel series

‘Your Word is a Lamp to My Feet’ is a work of art in which faith, tradition and the power of the written Word come together. At the centre is a Jewish man, wrapped in a tallit, reading intently. His posture radiates concentration, reverence and a sense of connection with the Eternal One. Beneath the image are the Hebrew words from Psalm 119:105, followed by the English translation: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” The intense cobalt blue and the bright white give the work a powerful, almost graphic appearance. The geometric lines of the background contrast with the organic forms of the human figure. The prayer shawl, with its distinctive stripes, is a recognisable symbol of the Jewish faith tradition.

Within ‘Fragmentamism’, the artistic style developed by KlaasR, the original image is broken down and reconstructed from contrasting planes, sharp contours and irregular fragments.

The words of the psalm form the spiritual core of the depiction. The Torah is not merely a collection of precepts, but a teaching that gives direction to life.

The work depicts how the Word of the Eternal One sheds light on the path that humankind treads.

A tribute to the Torah, to faithfulness and to the light of the Eternal One that guides every step.
