Heerema's anchor handling tug Kolga.
IMO: 9646326.
The Kolga is one of Heerema Marine Contractors' two anchor handling tugs. The vessel was commissioned in 2013 and has a bollard pull of 212 tonnes. It is equipped for global operations and can withstand rough sea conditions.
An anchor handling tug is a special type of tug that originated in the offshore industry. As it shifted towards deeper and deeper water, jack-up platforms (jack-ups) could no longer be used. Floating platforms, especially before the advent of dynamic positioning, had to be anchored. Whereas an ordinary ship can anchor itself, this is not possible for these platforms. This is because multiple anchors are used so that the platform can stay in position. Up to 16 anchors can be used to anchor a platform.
