About the artwork

The picture shows an imposing, abandoned building with massive brick walls and windows that are barred and closed. The façade is divided into two colours: one part is made of red brick, while the other shines in light beige. These colour contrasts give the building a special aesthetic and are reminiscent of a time when these walls were still inhabited and in use. But the undisturbed vegetation in the foreground tells a different story - the story of a place that is being reclaimed by nature.

Wild flowers and grasses grow unhindered and have a firm grip on the terrain. The vibrant colours of the plants, especially the bright red flowers in the foreground, form a lively contrast to the austere, quiet architecture of the building. The building looks like a silent witness to past decades when nature was kept outside. But today it is spreading out and reclaiming every last bit of ground. The sky is covered in dark clouds, giving the scene a dramatic and melancholy atmosphere, as if the weather is adapting to the silent decay of the building. This image is a symbol of the eternal cycle in which nature ultimately always has the upper hand.
