The Picos de Europa (literally: "Peaks of Europe") is a mountain range in the north of Spain, part of the Cantabrian Mountains, of which it forms the highest part. The mountain range lies about 20 km south of the Spanish north coast on the border of the autonomous regions of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León. Many peaks rise above 2400 meters. The highest peak, with an altitude of 2648 meters, is the Torre de Cerredo. The area is popular with mountaineers and hikers. There is a network of well-maintained mountain shelters.
