The Red City Hall is the seat of the Governing Mayor and the Senate of Berlin, and the eye-catching building is also a well-known landmark of the city. The building near Alexanderplatz got its name not thanks to a political orientation, but from the façade with bright red bricks. The Red City Hall was built between 1861 and 1869 according to the designs of Hermann Waesemann. Just four years after the foundation stone was laid, the first magistrate's meeting could be held in the town hall. The red colour of the bricks is particularly striking, and they shine especially brightly in the evening sun. The 74-metre-high tower is visible from afar.
