About ‘Jaipur: Fort Jaigarh’ by Maarten Verhees

Jaigarh Fort is gelegen op het voorgebergte genaamd de Cheel ka Teela (heuvel van de Eagles) van het Aravalli-bereik. Het kijkt uit over de Amer Fort en de Maota Lake, in de buurt van Amer in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Het fort werd gebouwd door Jai Singh II in 1726 om het Amer Fort en zijn paleiscomplex te beschermen en naar hem vernoemd.Het fort, ruig en vergelijkbaar in structureel ontwerp met het Amer Fort, is ook bekend als Victory Fort. Het heeft een lengte van 3 kilometer langs de noord-zuidrichting en een breedte van 1 kilometer. Het fort heeft een kanon met de naam "Jaivana", dat werd vervaardigd in de forten van het fort en toen 's werelds grootste kanon op wielen was.
