About ‘Kingfisher in Blue’ by RenskeMakes

Kingfisher – hand-painted in Acrylic Gouache (2025)

A first attempt at capturing a kingfisher on canvas, and at the same time a perfect opportunity to put my new paint medium to the test.

For this painting, I worked with Acrylic Gouache, drawn to its intense colours and matte finish. The rich blues of the feathers and the warm orange of the breast were perfect for this medium. I painted the kingfisher with quite a lot of detail, but deliberately chose not to make the entire painting completely realistic.

That is why I went for a looser, more abstract background. The shades of blue, touches of green and the organic shapes of the reeds and trees create an almost dreamlike setting, while keeping the kingfisher firmly at the centre of the composition.

For me, the contrast between the recognisable, detailed bird and the freer background is what makes this painting interesting. Up close, you can see the many individual brushstrokes in the feathers, beak and tree bark; from a distance, the vivid colours come together to create one lively image.

A colourful interpretation of one of the most distinctive birds you can encounter in the Netherlands.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
