In central Limburg near Ell is a small nature reserve called Heijkersbroek. Around the water there are many meadow damselflies during the summer season. The photo shows a male, which has the characteristic four blue spots. The females, in fact, are solid green. My eye caught the beautiful yellow behind the reeds, caused by the sun shining on the yellow grasses in the background. Chickadees have the characteristic of hunting insects from the same spot for a while so you can predict the landing spot pretty well. So I focused from tripod on the reed stalk and waited. Often the flight lasts only a few seconds and then the damselfly returns, so here too. I opted for a fast shutter speed to "freeze" the animal in mid-air, because I liked those hanging legs already extended towards the stem so much. The shadow of its head falling on the stem is a bonus. The blurring of the other stems and the beautiful hues in yellow and green made it an atmospheric nature image. Such is the beauty of small nature you can capture with the telephoto lens.
