Peach Blossom Trail in Veria by Ingrid de Vos - Boom

Every year in March, something magical happens around the town of Veria, in the heart of Imathia, Greece: the landscape slowly transforms into a patchwork of pink as thousands of peach trees come into bloom.

In 2015, a photography competition focusing on the blossoms of Veria was launched, raising the profile of this region. Since then, blossom festivals have been held here, usually around mid-March, when the blossoms are at their most beautiful.
I was here in mid-March 2026 too, not so much for the festivals, as I prefer to have the orchard to myself so I can take photos in peace. That worked out perfectly. Kilometres of orchard stretch out, varying in colour from white to dark pink and every shade of pink in between. And not a soul in sight.
In Japan, they have a beautiful name for this: Sakura Hanami; literally: flower viewing. In Japan, this usually refers to the cherry blossom.
Peach blossom is a sight to behold; the blossoms are slightly larger and you often see a gradient of colour within a single flower.
In this photo, I’ve highlighted the branches in the foreground, and if you zoom in, you can see the beautiful details in the flowers. I’ve blended the other trees into a soft pink background, creating a romantic, poetic atmosphere. The fresh green path running through the middle of the row of peach trees adds to the springtime atmosphere.

Veria is an hour’s drive north-west of Greece’s second city, Thessaloniki.
