A peacock butterfly is a common butterfly. It is easily distinguished by the variegated colours on its wings and the distinctive eye markings on its tips. It is a fairly large butterfly with a wingspan of 50 or 60 mm, and is commonly found from spring and into autumn.
I found this specimen in the insect garden in Ilpendam.
