Place of interest in Nevada as well as Arizona: Hoover Dam.
The Hoover Dam, also known as the Boulder Dam after the town of Boulder City (Nevada), 12 kilometres away, is a concrete arch dam in the Colorado River near the Black Canyon, on the border between the US states of Arizona and Nevada. The dam, located 48 kilometres southeast of Las Vegas, is named after Herbert Hoover, who played a key role in building the dam, first as Secretary of Commerce and later as President of the United States.
The reservoir created behind the dam is called Lake Mead, named after Elwood Mead who oversaw construction of the dam.
