The polar bear is very large and powerful. Males are 2.3 to 2.6 meters long and weigh 300 to 800 kilograms. The polar bear has a long neck and a big nose. Under the fur the skin is black, which can be seen on the naked parts like the nose and the lips. The polar bear has no other natural enemies than humans. Since May 2006, the polar bear has been listed as "vulnerable" on the Red List of endangered species, because it is expected that due to the steady decline in floating ice in the summer, the population will decrease by at least thirty percent over the next 45 years. The animal is often used as a symbol in actions related to global warming.
