In addition to ink portraits and digital art, I have spent years with my fingers in acrylic paint. Painting on large canvases, with my hands in the matter.
The portraits in The portrait collection are inspired by my last acrylic canvases from 2016. They are abstract expressionist female portraits with rough brushstrokes, smudges, water and visible paint drips. In the imperfection I find the tension, a line, a stain, a crackle, a dripping.
Half abstract, half portrait.
I'm looking for the right balance between portrait and abstraction, between recognition and alienation, presence and calm.
Layered portraits with lots of color and tranquility. To ensure tranquility, I always look for the white surface and the right combination of grayish colors. In this work pink clearly has the upper hand, with accents of ochre and light blue.
The works in The portrait collection were created from an experimental approach to digital image processing. The work has been given a slight visual texture topping, so that the whole work blends together and you will really experience the feeling of a painting on linen.
I imagine this portrait nice and large, on a clean surface like acrylic glass for a glossy result or steel with a matte finish, for a clean, industrial look in your interior.
