This is a red laser light that shines directly into the camera. The laser is such a weak laser that you can buy in hardware stores and use it for relocations, and aligning wallpaper. I still had this one and I thought it would be interesting to let it shine in the camera, and to see how that light relates to the sensor. The spread is like an explosion. Or a supernova. To be on the safe side though I used an older Nikon D3100 that I had lying around.
