The red British telephone box of the model introduced in 1924 and improved in 1935 has become an icon that for many symbolizes traditional British values. In many places in the United Kingdom, including Inner London where they are carefully cherished, traditional cast iron telephone boxes still stand. This version of the phone box is red, the updated version is black. The phone booths accept coins and cards. In most of the booths a BT phone card or credit card can also be used. In the renewed phone booths, the door states which payment methods are accepted. Despite the sharp decline in usage due to the rise of mobile phones, the red cells can still be seen and used in many places in the UK.
