About ‘Reynolds Mountain, Glacier’ by Marald Bes

Reynolds Mountain, seen from Logan Pass in Glacier National Park.

The peak sits in the middle of the frame, a lopsided pyramid topped with bare, layered rock. Where the sun catches it, it glows golden brown.

Below that, snowfields lie in bands between the ribs of rock, and below those a steep green slope drops away into a valley full of pines.

On the left a long dark ridge runs out of the frame, snow still sitting in its gullies.

The busiest part is the sky. Banks of cloud move through fast and their shadows slide across the slopes like dark patches.

Bottom right there is a piece of road with a low stone wall. The only trace of people, and only once you find it do you understand the scale.

High summer, and still cold. At this height the snow never fully goes.

On a wall this suits a room with plenty of daylight and cool colours. It can hang large without becoming busy. One for anyone who likes walking in the mountains.
