The City Hall on Coolsingel, designed by architect Henri Evers, is one of the oldest buildings in the center of Rotterdam and yet it's been there for only a century. Construction started in 1914 and six years later the building was officially inaugurated. As one of the few buildings in the center of Rotterdam City Hall survived the bombing and subsequent fire on the 14th of May 1940. Since 1997, it is a national monument.
This image shows the City Hall, with its tower, courtyards and characteristic sandstone facades and slate roofs, seen from the adjacent Timmerhuis. In the background we see postwar buildings like De Doelen concert hall, the Millennium Tower and Nationale Nederlanden.
The original photo has been edited to give it a drawn, painterly look.
