I took this photo on a quiet day at the beach, where the light was soft and the colours almost blended together. The shades of the sand, sky and bushes in the background were so subtle that it seemed almost monochrome. Precisely because of this, the grey's fur stood out in a subtle way. Its light fur, with soft shades of grey and a sheen that only becomes visible when the light is right, is a bright contrast to the warm, dull background.
I love these kinds of images where little happens, but where everything is right. No crowds, no background that distracts. Just the horse and the space around him. The movement is in the gallop, but the atmosphere remains calm.
What I like about this image is that it radiates both strength and softness. The animal is in motion, muscular, present - but the colours and light actually make the image very still.
I envision this picture in an interior where tranquillity is important. A bedroom, for example, or a practice room where you want people to land. The natural tones adjust easily, without blending into the wall.
For me, this is exactly why I photograph: to capture something that would actually be over in a flash, but that lingers in the picture for a while.
